Sweat Soaked Hair

You know how your hair feels after you've showered and towelled your head? Wet, right? I mean, still pretty wet.

Now imagine your head feels that wet--and it's all from your sweat.

Today was arguably the most humid, sticky, muggy, awful day I've ever had to march around in--while wearing approximately four layers of clothing. The fact that our thick band-issued T-shirts were plastered to our skin wasn't that bad. That sweat was dripping down into our ears and our eyes wasn't that bad. It wasn't even that horribly hot.

But the thin, plastic, polyester lining of our jackets, clasping itself in a hot, inescapable sheath across our arms and upper body--that was the worst.

Luckily the sun went down at 7:45, an hour into the game, and then it got better.

After a bit of a scare at the beginning we beat UConn handily, even though our first string quarterback was out for whatever explanation you choose to believe (we heard hospitalized, we heard migraines, we heard stomach-flu, who knows).

And now that I'm out of my uniform I can say it was a fun game. We even got meal vouchers for free hot dogs and soda, which is unprecedented. While it does cause the band to dwindle in numbers for the second half as people periodically leave to get their food, it created a lot of good will. Because going from around 2 pm to 11 pm without food is hard. Some people had to do that. I didn't have spirit band, which roams around before the game among the tailgaters, so I only was doing band stuff from 2:30 to 3:30 (practice) and 5 to 11 (game). Which when I say it sounds really, really long. And explains why I'm really, really tired.

Karen's here this weekend. She used my ticket to get into the game. We're going shopping tomorrow but I'm not sure for what. I thought it was for Catherine to get dangly earrings for her newly pierced ears, but now Catherine is claiming to have too much schoolwork to go so I'm not sure why we're going. Normally we have a very specific goal when we're shopping. We never shop just to shop. We don't have time for that.

Which I'm realizing. For the past two weeks, except for football games, I get up, go to class, and do homework for the rest of the day with scheduled breaks for band practice, games, and TV, and then go to bed. Unless it's a TV show no one else here watches, in which case I do homework during the show, too.

I saw a real HMO doctor here in Georgia this week, and he took me off the indocin that was causing my headaches. It's so nice not to feel like crap all the time. Because seriously, that stuff took me out of the running from last Sunday to this Thursday. Yesterday was the first day I'd felt all right in a while. No more horrible headaches, yay! I'm supposed to call for a neurology appointment soon. We'll see.

Too sleepy. Words on screen blurring. Bed.
