Spectacular Failures

And the work continues.

The last two football games haven't been too exciting. At the Uconn game tThe main excitement (for the band) was that when we went to perform the halftime game half of us are supposed to come on from the back sideline, so when there's only a few minutes left on the game clock we get herded underneath the stands so we can emerge from the player's entrance and go onto backfield.

Problem was no one was there to tell us when to go on the field. So we waited until the team came in, we clapped, and then we headed to the field. And everybody just started running. The front half of the band was already on the field, in position, and about to begin playing. So we sprinted to our spots.

Graham, who was on the drum major's stand, said later that he had to hold his stomach to keep from bursting out laughing at the sight of all of us holding our shakos (hats) and running onto the field as fast as we could. One of the trombones accidentally sprinted to the wrong spot and spent three sets working his way back to the right position.

The other game was Virgina Tech, which was an away game so I didn't go. It was depressing. We lost 51 to 7, which was the same score from when we got slaughtered by Georgia my freshman year. Sad.

Last week was frustrating for a variety of reason, not the least of which was that my computer decided not to play DVDs anymore. I figured this out when I went to play Sims2 and it wouldn't work. I'd been having problems with the school-prescribed firewall and thought that was it, but after two hours on the phone with Dell Tech Support and having to open the case of my computer and fiddle around with the wires which I greatly disliked, they had me do a "System Restore" and now it works again. Well, that drive won't play my Rob Thomas CD, but I can play Sims and that's what I wanted. I can use the other drive for everything else. But that was worrisome. I don't like things going wrong with my computer. Especially since the warranty apparently ran out last month.

For some reason the Georgia governor requested all school districts to close school today and tomorrow. They've been debating it on the band header but I press the delete button on those. Because even before I knew what was going on I got the "MegaMod" email that goes to everyone at Georgia Tech saying no matter what, Georgia Tech will be open.

But we did get out of the high school exhibition the marching band was supposed to do tonight because *they're* closed. So I'm happy.
