Spring break was relaxing, which was good.
First, last Sunday, Catherine had her sister's car, so we went shopping. We went to Target and I got a very cute bee Easter basket and a $1 stuffed sheep I planned to give to my sister but liked too much. I named him Happy FuzzDuff and got my sister a bigger sheep at the grocery store later. Catherine and I went to REI, too, and checked out the rock-climbing gear. It's not that expensive, ~$60 for a harness and $100 for shoes, but we'll be content with our rented gear for a long while.
Monday morning Catherine, Laura, Kim, and I headed down to Kim's lake house in Alabama. Our main adventure for that day was grocery shopping. It was a tiny little town and the other girls thought we made the bagboy at the Piggly Wiggly's day - four girls he'd never seen before. That night we had hamburgers doctored with Worchestershire and garlic and mashed potatoes. The next day was spent lying around and trying to start the boat, and making excellent burritos. I made my mom's roast pork, homemade tortillas, America's Test Kitchen mexican rice, with beans and lettuce and cheese and salsa and sour cream though I didn't partake of those last two, of course.
The remainder of the trip was mostly spent eating (one night at a restaurant, two good breakfasts, lots of ice cream), watching TV (I got them all hooked on Wonderfalls). On Wednesday Graham, Jen, and Chad came, and we did exactly the same things but by then Kim got the boat working and we went out on the boat on two trips. The only boat I've been on before was the research vessel our school district owned that all fifth graders went on to explore the wonderous world of the the Bay Area Delta.
The lake, Lake Martin, was apparently entirely man-made. We saw a bridge and several islands, the governor of Alabama's lakehouse, the football coach of Auburn's lakehouse (they were right next door to each other), and a big rock people jump off of that's covered in graffiti.
Then Thursday we came home. Home to Atlanta. My roommates think it's weird that I think of the dorm at home. But it is home, except around Christmas and summer when I'm going to go home home.
Friday, Catherine and her sisters and Laura and I went to Six Flags. We didn't ride too many rides, which suited me fine. I got a bit sick after the Wheelie, which was stupid because that ride is so little (it's the one where you sit in little cars and it just spins you in a vertical circle so you're upside down half the time). That night was a Christian music concert and after that we came back.
Saturday Karen was here and I can't remember a thing we did. Well, that was when I got my sister's new sheep. I made Pappy's chicken and roasted vegetables for dinner and poured the chicken juice over the vegetables which makes it really good. It was all super good. Then we saw Robots which had some plot points that could have used expanding, but was very enjoyable.
Sunday Karen and I drove up to Catherine's family's house and had Easter dinner with them and her sister Elizabeth's previous roommate and her husband, who is black. At one point we were talking about some movie, the new Lovebug I think, and Elizabeth said that she thought it had that kid from "Ed" in it - and I said "The dorky one?" and the husband whispered to his wife and I think then she asked, "What did you say?" and I said "the dork one?" and he revealed that he'd thought I'd said "the darky one" which everyone laughed about but which made me feel very uncomfortable because in third grade I was accused of calling a girl darky or blackie when I'd actually called her a jerk. Otherwise lunch was very good.
I'm on naproxen (Aleve) for some tingling in my left hand (it's an anti-inflammatory to cut down whatever pressure is on a nerve somewhere) and man, I have been having a lot more and more vivid dreams since I started taking it. Since it was over spring break it fit in with the routine of sleeping in late, and I don't remember most of those dreams. But last night, crap, my dream sucked.
I was being stalked by a man, not just normal Tech stalked but following-me-ten-paces-behind stalked. He followed me around for a while, then through the student athletic complex where I confronted him and he said he'd kill me just like he killed Geordi La Forge. You know, the Star Trek character played by the Reading Rainbow guy? So I went home (California home) and past who I thought was my dad on the couch to the TV where Lost was on. Somehow, I was able to talk to one of the characters in the TV. I asked her what happened to Geordi La Forge and just as she was about to answer I turned around and the guy on the couch wasn't my dad, it was LeVar Burton! The guy hadn't killed him!
It was such a bizarre dream. It's up there with the JarJar Binks one a while ago. That one was not drug induced.
