I have discovered that my tennis shoes are no longer water-proof--
the hard way.
Monday was rainy, and as I walked to class in the morning I hadn't gotten across the playing fields yet before my socks were full of water and my feet made gushing sounds inside my shoes as I walked.
What was bad was that I had to work in my group all day, so I finally got out of my cold, wet shoes and socks around 3 pm, after 7 hours in them.
Tuesday, yesterday, I similarly spent most of the day in the computer lab. Similar to Saturday and last week and on and on. We have this design project in Separations that's been taking a lot of time, then an extra credit assignment in Control that took some effort, and the normal lab and design in Control that I've stopped wanting to do a good job on because the last lab worked so badly it was incredible. Even though the rig was only built this summer one of the control valves (aka "the important part") was broken, and had to be POKED every time the computer wanted to adjust the flow rate. And we're going to see the professor tomorrow because in the last two sections of the lab the controller did the exact opposite of what it should have done. For instance, when the water coming out of the heat exchanger was too hot, it decreased the amount of cold water. Ludicrous.
Last night was fun though. We actually did anything. Laura had emailed, saying her husband, John, couldn't come to dinner (he's an aerospace grad student and busy with the end of the semester), so did we want to? Ben, who I was in a group meeting with at the time I got the email, wanted to come, and we collected Becky and Catherine on the way and after some debate, ended up at Franco's, the Italian place me and my dad found years ago. Then we rented Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and watched it, that being preceded by a little bit of cartwheeling in the hallway (Ben had teased Catherine about never teaching him how to) and tasting butterbeer.
Today actually doesn't involve a group meeting, just working on the group projects on my own. I'm the "Conclusions" section girl this week. The professor told another group that the lab 6 report is a "gimme" because it has so many issues, but I stopped trusting professors when they say something's easy a long time ago.
