Bask in the Glory

The cold snap last week has died down, so it was as if it was summer summer summer, WINTER, now fall. I remember slightly something about trees needing certain low temperatures to have really nice fall colors, and I think this did it, because the trees outside our apartment are very pretty. Reds and yellows along with the stragglers that are still green. Or maybe I'm just noticing this year because my room faces the courtyard instead of the dumpsters.

In band this week the new assistant director, Donnie, announced that we were going to learn the drill to the new song and it perform it on Saturday--after only two practices. Us on the field at the time he said this looked nervously at each other, but it turned out to only be a few sets, so it's all right.

What's funny though is at the end of the drill I end up on one side of a triangle along with the rats Alex, Sarah, and the junior Ryan. For the next move, the triangle rotates, and essentially our diagonal line switches from going to the right to going to the left, so at certain times each one of us passes behind the other.

That's fine.

Except we play trombone. That sticks out two feet in front of us.

And Alex, Sarah, Ryan and me? We're all only maybe four inches in height away from each other.

It would be worse, I suppose, if ever successive person were taller than the other, but as it stands, we're dangerously close to having a domino effect. Last practice I accidentally hit Alex on the head when I was passing my trombone over him, and in reaction he hit Sarah, though it stopped there.

The semester has been so busy and hectic that it wasn't until the other day when Catherine goes "We only have five weeks left" that I realized how fast it's gone. Well, five weeks and then finals. I think this year when I get home for Christmas, the first night I'm going to sleep as long as I want, and the just lie in bed, basking in the glory of having nothing I have to do.
